A loving reflection to honor the deep and unique presence of a beloved cat
If you arrived on this page, perhaps you are navigating the difficult physical loss of a very special cat you deeply love.
And anyone who has loved a cat knows that their presence and essence are profoundly special.
Some cats accompany us quietly.
Others are wonderfully chatty in their own way.
Through a gaze.
The gentle movement of a tail.
The sound of their little paws.
The warmth and weight of their body close to you.
The way they choose a place in the home and somehow make it entirely their own.
That unmistakably feline way of coming close when they want to, exactly as they want to, while still making you feel deeply chosen.
When a beloved cat physically passes, the home can feel different.
Not because their soul has stopped accompanying you.
Not because the bond has disappeared.
Not because their love is gone.
But because the way you share life together changes.
The home holds their story.
The way they inhabited its spaces.
The way they watched the world through a window.
Their presence on a chair, a bed, in a favorite corner, or stretched out in a ray of sunlight.
Their habit of suddenly appearing beside you.
Their unique way of accompanying you.
Their presence, so full of life.
And even though their spiritual presence remains close, our hearts deeply miss the physical way we learned to recognize them.
We miss seeing them.
Hearing them.
Feeling their weight close to us.
Looking for them in their favorite places.
Waiting for their footsteps, their gaze, their meow, or that very special way they made their presence known.
Grieving a cat can hurt in a very particular way.
Because cats become such an important part of our family.
They share our routines.
They watch over the spaces we call home.
They are present in intimate moments.
They rest close to our emotions.
They look at us with a depth that is sometimes difficult to explain.
And when they physically pass, something about the way we experience our home changes.
This page was created to honor those beloved cats who have physically passed and whose presence has left a profound imprint on the home, the life, and the hearts of those who continue loving them.
A Note of Respect About This Reading
This reading has been shared for many years in different versions, in both Spanish and English, under names such as “Para los gatos que partieron” and “For the Cats Who Have Passed.”
As happens with many texts shared in spaces of grief and remembrance for animals, it is not always possible to clearly confirm its origin, authorship, or earliest version.
Out of respect for the original text and for those who have shared it throughout the years, I do not reproduce the complete reading or a full version in another language on this page.
Instead, I wish to honor the sensitivity of its message through my own words: a loving reflection on cats who physically pass, the profound imprint they leave in a home, the unique way they continue living in our memories, and the bond that can continue accompanying us through love.
The Unique Presence of a Cat in Our Lives
Cats have a very special way of entering our lives.
Sometimes they arrive with independence.
Sometimes with mystery.
Sometimes with distance.
Sometimes with a tenderness that appears exactly when we least expect it.
A cat does not always express love in the same way as another animal.
Sometimes it is offered through a slow gaze.
A gentle blink.
A head resting against your hand.
A purr close to your chest.
Their body curled up beside you.
That very special way they come close while you work, rest, or simply move through your day.
And even when they may seem reserved, those of us who love cats know that their love can be profoundly loyal, sensitive, powerful, and uniquely their own.
A cat can become a companion in the home.
A guardian of a space.
A witness to our everyday lives.
A constant presence woven into our routines.
A being who, through their completely unique presence, profoundly transforms the energy of a home.
That is why, when a beloved cat physically passes, our hearts deeply miss their physical way of being with us.
We miss the way they chose us.
Their presence in familiar corners.
Their unique energy.
Their personality.
Their gestures.
Their funny little habits.
Their ways of communicating.
The way they accompanied us.
The way they made us feel chosen, accompanied, and loved.
A beloved cat becomes part of the family in a profoundly meaningful way.
They inhabit the home with their presence.
They accompany our routines with their energy.
They fill everyday moments with meaning.
They leave traces of themselves in the places they made their own.
They transform ordinary moments through their companionship.
They become part of the story of the home.
And they hold a unique place in our hearts.
The Places That Continue Holding Their Story
After the physical passing of a beloved cat, certain spaces in the home can touch the heart very deeply.
The corner they chose for resting.
The window from which they watched the world.
The chair they made one of their favorite places.
The bed where they curled up close to you.
The place where their bowls were kept.
That special spot where they looked for the warmth of the sun.
The hallway where you recognized their footsteps.
The doorway where they waited for you.
The blanket that still reminds you of their presence.
That place where you can almost imagine your hand reaching out to pet them again.
The home holds so many small memories of the life you shared.
Sometimes, without even realizing it, you may still look toward the place where you were accustomed to finding them.
For an instant, you may expect to hear their meow.
Imagine seeing them walk past you.
Still step carefully through a place where they used to cross your path.
Wake up and naturally look for that familiar warmth and weight beside you.
These gestures come from a life deeply shared.
Your heart knows their routines.
It recognizes their places.
It remembers their sounds.
It misses their ways of communicating with you and all those little ways they were part of each day.
And although your physical life together is now different, those places remain part of the story you created together.
They can hold memories.
They can awaken tenderness.
They can bring tears.
They can make you smile when you remember something funny they used to do.
And little by little, they may also become spaces where you feel close to the love you share.
Because your beloved cat continues to be part of your family, your home, and your story.
And their spiritual presence can continue accompanying you, even in those same places where you shared so much of life together.

From Animals in Spirit Communication
From my experience as an Animal Communicator, cats in spirit often make their presence known in a very special way.
Many times, they come through with the same essence that made them uniquely themselves during their physical life: sensitive, observant, loving, independent, profound, sometimes playful, sometimes serene, always connected through the bond they share with their family.
I have often perceived cats in spirit continuing to accompany the energy of their home and their loved ones in very gentle ways.
It does not always need to be obvious.
It does not always come through a big sign.
And it may not arrive in the way we expected.
Sometimes it feels like a sense of calm in a place where they loved to rest.
A memory that suddenly comes while looking through a window.
A soft sense of presence while you sleep.
A feeling of companionship as you move through your home.
An inner image of them in their favorite place.
A dream.
A quiet certainty that they remain close.
Cats have a very particular way of accompanying us.
Even from spirit, their presence can feel gentle, loving, profound, and completely their own.
As though they were saying:
“I am still here, in my own way.”
“I am still close to you.”
“This bond is still home to me, too.”
Many times, cats in spirit show that they want the love they share with their family to continue being alive.
In the home.
In the memories.
In everyday rituals.
In the way their person speaks to them.
In the ways their place is honored.
And, when the heart is ready, in the possibility of opening again to another being without that ever erasing what they shared.
Every cat has their own soul.
Their own energy.
Their own story.
Their own way of loving.
Their own unique place in the heart.
And that place remains theirs, even if life someday opens the heart to more love.
When Another Cat Touches Your Heart After a Loss
After the physical passing of a beloved cat, the thought of sharing life with another animal can awaken very different emotions.
Some people feel the desire for companionship very soon.
Not because the one who passed matters any less.
Sometimes the quiet in the home feels unbearably heavy.
Sometimes caring for another being can bring a little structure, tenderness, or companionship in the middle of grief.
Sometimes a cat appears unexpectedly, and something in the heart feels that their arrival carries a very special meaning.
Other people need much more time.
The very thought of opening their heart to another cat may feel impossible.
Guilt may arise.
There may be a fear of betraying the one who passed.
There may simply not yet be enough emotional space to imagine beginning another story.
Both experiences are valid.
There is no correct amount of time before sharing your life with another animal.
Every bond is unique.
Every grief process has its own rhythm.
Every heart knows when something begins to feel possible and when it does not yet.
Through my experience with Animals in Spirit Communication, I have also encountered situations in which a new animal arrives at a deeply meaningful moment for the family.
Sometimes their presence helps accompany the grieving process.
Sometimes they bring a different energy that gently brings movement back into everyday life.
And sometimes families feel deeply that the beloved animal who passed had something to do with that encounter.
This does not happen the same way in every story.
But when it does, it can feel like a loving way in which life opens space again for connection.
Loving another cat does not make the love already in your heart any smaller.
Each being arrives with their own essence, their own way of loving, and their own story to build with you.
Some time ago, one of my own animals in spirit shared something with me that I hold very deeply in my heart and often pass along to people who feel guilty at the possibility of loving again:
our hearts grow as beloved beings come into our lives.
We do not have to take someone out of our hearts to make space for someone else.
The heart expands.
Each one has their own place.
Their own story.
Their own bond.
Their own unique way of transforming us.
So if another cat comes into your life someday, they can find their own place without taking anything away from the place your beloved cat already holds in your heart.
And if today you do not yet feel that space, that is okay too.
Every heart has its own moment.
Perhaps someone will arrive unexpectedly one day.
Perhaps you will feel the desire to go looking for them.
Perhaps that encounter will happen much later.
Or perhaps your path will unfold differently.
What matters is remembering that the heart has room for every unique love that becomes part of our story.
The heart grows with every beloved being who comes into our life, expands, and
keeps a unique place for each one.
Honoring Their Life, Their Essence, and the Bond You Share
When a beloved cat physically passes, sometimes a desire arises to do something with all the love that is still present.
Something that says:
I remember you.
I am grateful for you.
Your life matters.
You are still part of my family.
Everything we shared still has a place within me.
Honoring them does not need to mean creating a grand ritual or immediately finding a special way to remember them.
Sometimes it can be something deeply intimate.
Keeping their photograph in a place you love.
Holding onto the blanket that reminds you of your moments together.
Talking to them when they come to mind.
Lighting a candle on a meaningful date, or simply on a day when you deeply miss feeling them close.
Keeping some of their belongings until your heart knows what it wants to do with them.
Creating a special space at home that celebrates their life.
Writing down their stories, their funny moments, their gestures, and those little things you never want to forget.
You can also honor them through the ways you continue carrying their love into the world.
By caring tenderly for the animals who continue sharing your life.
Helping a cat in need.
Donating food, time, or support in their name.
Protecting something they taught you to see differently.
Allowing the sensitivity, patience, or love they awakened in you to continue being part of who you are.
Sometimes honoring them also means allowing their personality to continue having a place in family conversations.
Remembering that funny little habit only they had.
Laughing at one of their adventures.
Saying their name.
Telling their stories.
Looking at a photo and saying, “Look what you used to do.”
Because remembering with love can also be a way of continuing to share life together.
And there will be days when honoring them simply means missing them.
Sitting quietly.
Crying.
Talking to them.
Looking toward the place where you found them so many times.
Telling them how much you love them.
All of this can also be part of the bond.
There is no single way to honor someone you love.
What feels meaningful to you may change with time. Perhaps today you need to keep everything close. Perhaps one day you will want to transform some of their belongings into a special remembrance. Perhaps much later you will discover completely new ways to celebrate their life.
Love can find its own languages.
And whatever comes from your heart can become a way of saying:
Thank you for your life.
Thank you for choosing me.
Thank you for everything we continue sharing.
Your place in my heart will always be yours.

For the cats who have physically passed and continue holding a unique place in our families, our stories, and our hearts.
For those who found the most unexpected places to rest.
For those who chose our legs, our chest, or our pillow as one of their favorite places.
For those who contemplated the world from a window.
For those who walked behind us through the house or called to us in their own way.
For those who communicated through looks, meows, purrs, gestures, and all those unmistakably feline ways of expressing themselves.
For those who appeared exactly when we needed companionship.

They weave their essence into our story.
And they hold forever a place that belongs only to them.
The love you share continues to be part of both of you. And that bond will always have its own unique place.
With love,

Who Accompanies You in This Space
My name is Erika Apellániz, and I am a Professional Animal Communicator, certified since 2017.
Throughout my path, I have accompanied thousands of animal communication sessions and processes, including many encounters with animals in spirit and families navigating grief after the physical loss of a beloved animal companion.
My work with animals in spirit comes from a place of deep respect, love, and sensitivity. For me, each session is a sacred space of listening, where the bond is not seen as something that ended, but as a connection that continues to live in a more subtle, luminous, and loving way.
I accompany these processes with the intention of honoring the story you share, receiving whatever is possible from the heart, and remembering that our animals continue to be part of our family, even though their physical presence has changed.
This page was created from that same perspective: as a space of comfort, hope, and love for those who deeply miss a beloved one in spirit.
