Remember Me

Dog, cat, rabbit, and bird in a warm space with a candle, flowers, and memories as a symbol of love that remains

If you arrived on this page, perhaps you are going through the physical loss of someone you deeply love.

Maybe you miss their presence, their gaze, their sounds, their routines, the way they accompanied you, or that unique way in which they filled your life with love.

When a beloved animal companion physically departs, the heart may look for words that can help hold a little of the pain. Sometimes we need to remember. Sometimes we need to cry. Sometimes we need to feel that everything we lived together still has a sacred place within us.

The text known as “Remember Me” has accompanied many people through moments of grief, goodbye, and love. For many hearts, its message has become an invitation to remember not only from absence, but also from gratitude, the beauty of what was shared, and the love that remains.

This page was created with that same intention: to offer you a loving reflection on remembrance, the bond, and the presence that remains alive in another form.

For many years, the text known as “Remember Me” circulated as an anonymous poem in spaces of grief, goodbye, and comfort.

Today, it is commonly attributed to David Harkins, so, from a place of respect for his authorship, I do not reproduce the full poem on this page.

Instead, I wish to honor the deep message many people have found in it through my own words: a reflection on love, memory, and the bond that remains with those we love.

When someone we love physically departs, remembering can hurt.

It can hurt to look at their photos.
It can hurt to hear their name.
It can hurt to find their things.
It can hurt to return to the places you shared.
It can hurt to wake up and remember that their body is no longer here in the same way.

And at the same time, remembering can also be a deep way of honoring everything you shared.

To remember is to recognize that this love existed.
That this story was real.
That this bond transformed your life.
That their presence left footprints time cannot erase.

You do not have to choose between missing them and feeling grateful.

You can cry for their physical absence and, at the same time, feel gratitude for having loved them.

You can hold sadness and love in the same heart.

You can remember with tears, with tenderness, with longing, with a soft smile, or in silence.

All of this is also part of love.

Remembrance does not live only in the mind.

It also lives in the body, in the home, in routines, in objects, in scents, in sounds, and in those small everyday moments that suddenly bring us back to someone we love.

It may appear when you see the place where they used to sleep.
When you hear a sound similar to theirs.
When you prepare food.
When you open a door.
When you walk through a place you shared.
When you look at the sky.
When you feel, without explanation, that they are still close.

The bond with a beloved animal companion is not limited to the time you shared physically.

It also lives in everything they awakened within you: love, patience, tenderness, responsibility, joy, learning, companionship, trust, presence, and transformation.

Sometimes, when a beloved animal companion physically departs, remembrance can become mixed with difficult questions.

“Did I do enough?”
“Did I make the right decision?”
“Did they feel loved?”
“Do they know how much I miss them?”
“Do they forgive me?”
“Will I ever feel peace again?”

These questions may be born from love, but also from pain.

If you are carrying them in your heart today, I want to gently remind you of something: the bond you shared was much greater than one single moment or one single decision.

Your beloved animal does not look at their story with you through judgment.

The love you shared is not measured only by the final moments, but by everything you lived together: the care, the routines, the gazes, the games, the embraces, the lessons, the silent conversations, and the way you accompanied one another.

Remembering from love does not mean denying the pain.

It means allowing, little by little, gratitude, tenderness, and recognition for everything that was shared to exist alongside the sadness.

From my experience as an Animal Communicator, animals in spirit often show us that love does not end with physical goodbye.

Many times, during sessions, they share memories, special moments, sensations, images, or messages that help honor the story they lived with their family. But they also show something very important: the bond does not belong only to the past.

The love you share still has a present.
It still has ways of expressing itself.
It continues to accompany, support, and unite from spirit.

Some animals come close with joy.
Others with calm.
Others with deep tenderness.
Others show everyday memories that hold enormous meaning for their family.

And many also share the ways in which they are still present now: accompanying their family, sending love, coming close in dreams, showing signs, caring from spirit, or making themselves felt in meaningful moments.

I have perceived many times that they do not want their memory to be only pain.

They want the love you share to remain alive.
They want their people to know they are loved.
They want to remember the beautiful moments.
They want to continue being part of their family’s life.
They want their memory, with time, to also bring peace, tenderness, and love.

Our animals do not stop being our family when they physically depart.

Their presence changes, but the bond remains.
Their body is no longer here in the same way, but their love continues to accompany us.
Their voice may be felt differently, but their essence continues to communicate.

From spirit, they can continue sending messages, love, and care. They can come close when they miss us, when we need them, or when there is something they wish us to feel from that place of light.

And I have also felt, again and again, that reunion exists in one way or another.

Sometimes that reunion may be felt when we arrive in the spiritual plane.
Sometimes it may manifest if they choose to return to our life in another form.
Sometimes it may be experienced in dreams, signs, sensations, or moments when the heart simply knows they are near.

Missing them does not hurt them.
Remembering them does not bind them.
Loving them does not keep them trapped.

True love is not heavy.
True love does not chain.
True love honors, supports, and unites through freedom.

That is why remembering a beloved animal in spirit does not mean staying stuck in the past. It can also be a way of continuing to recognize their presence, their love, and the way they remain part of our life.

Because when the bond is born from unconditional love, it is not broken by physical death.

It transforms.
It remains.
And it continues finding ways to return to us.

If remembering hurts too much today, go slowly.

You do not have to look at all their photos.
You do not have to keep or move their things yet.
You do not have to talk about what happened if you cannot.
You do not have to smile if today you need to cry.
You do not have to be at peace before your heart is ready.

Grief has its own rhythm.

There will be days when remembering breaks your heart a little.
There will be days when remembering embraces you.
There will be days when a memory makes you cry.
There will be days when a memory makes you smile.

All of this can coexist.

There is no perfect way to live the physical absence of someone you loved deeply.

Your heart will gradually find a way to integrate that love into a new form of presence.

Sometimes, after the physical passing of a beloved animal companion, the desire arises to feel them close again, listen to what they wish to share, or understand something about the bond you lived together.

Animals in Spirit Communication can open a loving, intuitive, and respectful space to listen from the heart.

It does not replace your grieving process, nor does it seek to turn love into a test.

It is a space to honor the bond, receive what is possible from love, and remember that the connection with your beloved animal can remain present in a deep and subtle way.

When you feel it in your heart, you can learn more about the available sessions and choose the space that best supports this moment.

Remembering does not mean staying in the past.

Remembering can be a way to honor.
A way to give thanks.
A way to recognize the love that transformed your life.
A way to continue speaking with the heart.

Your beloved animal companion will always be part of your story.

And even though their physical presence is no longer here in the same way, the love you share remains alive: in your hearts, in your memories, in your lessons, and in the subtle ways their presence may continue accompanying you.

May this page offer a small embrace to your heart.

And may remembering your loved one help you feel that true love is never lost: it transforms, remains, and continues illuminating the bond that unites you.

With love,

My name is Erika Apellániz, and I am a Professional Animal Communicator, certified since 2017.

Throughout my path, I have accompanied thousands of Animal Communication sessions and processes, including many encounters with animals in spirit and families going through grief after the physical loss of a beloved animal companion.

My work with animals in spirit is born from a place of deep respect, love, and sensitivity. To me, each session is a sacred space of listening, where the bond is not seen as something that ended, but as a connection that remains alive in a more subtle, luminous, and loving way.

I accompany these processes with the intention of honoring the shared story, receiving what is possible from the heart, and remembering that our beloved animals continue to be part of our family, even when their physical presence has changed.

This page was created from that same perspective: as a space of comfort, hope, and love for those who deeply miss a loved one in spirit.
